Something I hear a lot from clients who come to me for website design is that they initially had plans to create the website themselves, but eventually decided to outsource.
“I’ll just make it myself, surely it’s easy, I’ll be fine”.
I mean, your mate’s sister's bestie who tried to convince you that it would be doable to make your own website isn’t 100% wrong. Website builders such as Wix and Squarespace are user friendly and don’t require coding, making it easier to DIY your own site.
Buuuuuttt that doesn’t mean you necessarily should! Here’s three reasons to hire a website designer to help you create a kick-ass website.
1. You’re not a website designer, and nor should you have to be!
Have you ever landed on a site and felt like you’d travelled back in time to the 90’s - all of a sudden you hear the faint, nostalgic sound of dial up ringing in your ears?
Or perhaps you’ve left a businesses’ website and chosen to go ahead with a competitor because their service offering wasn’t clear, and made you question whether they were the right fit?
It might sound a tad dramatic, but crappy website design can really make or break whether someone chooses to go ahead with your product or service.
It’s showcasing who you are, and why they should choose you. It could even be the first impression they have of your business, which means it’s super important to have a design that keeps your audience engaged.
If design isn’t your thing, then it’s always best to leave it to a pro who can give you amazing results!
2. A well thought out website makes for a better user experience
So we’ve already established that below average website design can make or break whether someone engages with your product or service. This then feeds into whether or not your site provides a positive user experience.
Does it scale well from desktop to mobile view?
Does the information flow well and is the content engaging?
Is the design consistent?
Is it easy to navigate?
Does everything work properly and link to the right places?
As a website designer the user experience is always front of mind, but if you don’t have the skills to achieve this then you risk your users having a negative experience when landing on your site.
3. A website designer will save you time (and probably a breakdown or two)
If the words search engine optimisation (SEO), DNS server or indexing make you scratch your head, then you’re in for a ruuudeee shock when creating your website!
Sure, there’s lots of resources out there to help you navigate your way through these things, but sometimes it’s better to pass it onto someone who knows what they’re doing.
Plus it’ll save you time so you can focus on whatever it is that you do best, and most likely a meltdown (or ten)!
